Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP)

Funded Help After Violent Crime

Recovery support following violent crime and abuse

The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) provides financial support for people impacted by violent crime in BC. This includes victims, immediate family members, and witnesses, and includes violence from physical and sexual abuse.

If you or someone in your immediate family has been impacted by a violent crime, you may be entitled to funds designed to offset the impact of the incident. Counselling is typically partially or fully covered, but CVAP may be able to provide financial assistance in other areas of recovery, such as funding personal safety devices, security cameras, replacing damaged items, etc.

Following a violent incident, the nervous system is often in a fight or flight trauma response. I provide a safe, trauma-informed space to stabilize, process what happened and manage the psychological distress.

In addition to processing trauma, here are some areas I can help:

  • Learning emotional regulation and coping mechanisms
  • Techniques for managing anxiety and triggers
  • Helping with disrupted sleep
  • Exposure therapy
  • Repairing interpersonal relationships
  • Returning to routines
  • Regaining confidence and self-esteem
  • Finding a sense of self

If you have been a victim of a crime in BC and feel that you would benefit from counselling, please contact me at either location.

CVAP requires you to complete an intake form – which can potentially be triggering to relive the details of the incident – but they do also offer victim service workers to help, or I can do this work with you.
