We all have different parts of ourselves, some we like, some we don’t. some that seems to be in conflict with each other, and some that feel very familiar, like they have been around for a long while but still don’t feel like they belong.
Internal family systems calls these out as Managers, Firefighters, Exiles and the Self but you may know them as the part that can’t make a mistake, the part that protects you by getting angry and pushing people away, the child part that just wants to feel loved…or you feel that these aspects are so much a part of you – so blended – that they don’t feel like separate parts at all, even thought you are tired of the work they’re doing and how they’re showing up in your life. In parts work, it is possible to clear away some of these players and regain an embodied sense of your authentic self.
“There is a plurality to our being: We are one heart with many parts. We are one psyche holding many minds and many psychologies. This opens doors, and they are doors that urgently need opening... while we are not responsible for the conditioning that’s brought us where we are now, we are indeed accountable for what we do with it.”
