We are inundated with the messaging that “love is all you need” and we should “love like we’ve never been hurt”…but it’s easier said than done. So many of my clients (and people I know…myself included once upon a time) have been hurt in a way that makes feeling love or joy too vulnerable to consider.
But while it may not be all we need, love certainly is the point, isn’t it? I saw a meme yesterday that being beautiful without being loving is just “congratulations on your face!”.
And being human without allowing yourself to be vulnerable enough to feel loved, or to feel joy, is to miss out on a lot.
I love this quote:
“if you have no intention of loving or being loved, then the whole journey is pointless.”
- Kate DiCamillo from the children’s book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
Try not to be afraid to love. Or be afraid and keep going. Let yourself be vulnerable enough to feel joy.
